Updated: HELLOWEEN Singer Taken Ill, Band Cancel European Gigs

HELLOWEEN have cancelled three shows on their current European tour (Cracow, Poland on Oct. 25, Oslo, Norway on Oct. 27 and Copenhagen, Denmark on Oct. 28) in order to allow vocalist Andi Deris to recover from an unspecified virus which has caused the group cut short their performance in Berlin, Germany Friday night (October 24).

"Yes, we feel very sorry about all this but before and after the shortened show we played in Berlin yesterday Andi went to see doctors — first, to get stronger antibiotics so he could DO the show in Berlin at all, and after because it did not work out perfectly, so the doctor he saw after the show ordered him to remain quiet for at least six days, four days minimum," guitarist Michael Weikath explained in a letter posted on the Polish HELLOWEEN fan site www.helloween.glt.pl. "So after this we had to decide he stays in Berlin in a good hotel room for the time necessary and the other musicians went to their respective homes in Germany to wait for the next possible show. Naturally, everybody hopes that shows that had to get cancelled will only get postponed and done later, after the official tour schedule so far.

"Andi's problems have been caused mainly by people not really connected to the band work, running in and out the HELLOWEEN dressing room, PROBABLY in Moscow, to get autographs or photos or just a look," Michael added. "But the tight overall schedule for this tour now also [took its toll] — it was actually a miracle that we could go out and play to this very point without having needed to cancel before... There is just so much a body of a singer can stand, and we actually had too many cold dressing rooms and hotels at various occasions, so one does not have a way of possibly getting better much on the way.

"We all hope we are able to play for the people who went to Club 38 [in Cracow, Poland Saturday night] as soon as possible!
